The Socinga Africa Foundation's Project Planeteer initiative has successfully deployed its latest off-grid Wi-Fi hub, bringing internet connectivity to over 200 families in rural Manicaland, Zimbabwe.

The solar-powered hub provides free Wi-Fi access within a 500-metre radius, enabling community members to access educational resources, e-government services, and market information for the first time.

"This is what meaningful social impact looks like," said the Foundation's director. "We're not just providing internet — we're opening doors to education, healthcare information, and economic opportunity for families who have been completely disconnected from the digital world."

The Manicaland hub is the fourth deployment under Project Planeteer, with three more planned before the end of 2026. Each hub is designed to operate independently using solar power, with no reliance on grid electricity.

Community members have already begun using the hub for school assignments, job applications, and mobile banking — activities that previously required a 45-minute journey to the nearest town.

This represents exactly the kind of structural change our industry has been waiting for.

Great analysis. I look forward to seeing how this scales across the COMESA region.
